In Congo, found unidentified animal

August 10 2007

In the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), members of an international scientific expedition found in the jungle just 6 species of animals that were not previously known to zoologists.

Scientists have found that two of the open species belong to a family of shrews (order Insectivora), two - to the order of tailless amphibians (frogs), one - to the suborder of bats (order Chiroptera), one - to the rodent. Besides animals, the expedition has opened up to 10 species of plants, samples of which are directed to the examination.

Members of the expedition surveyed the forest Misotshi-Kabogo and Marunga located west of Lake Tanganyika. These sites were isolated from the main forest of the Congo over the last ten thousand years, and therefore particularly interesting for the study. Tells Labor.
