In a suburb of Athens, archaeologists have unearthed an ancient market

In an area of more than one thousand five hundred square meters of archaeologists have discovered evidence of the existence of a rich settlement.

Wealth, as well as the remains of buildings and shops of the temple, which have found Greek archaeologists date to the fifth-fourth centuries BC.

In the very large building, which was discovered in a suburb of Athens, features 12 rooms, which, according to the assumptions of archaeologists, were used as shops. In these rooms of archaeologists have discovered a lot of amphorae, large numbers of coins.

Among the findings were also weights for scales, which confirms the version of the archaeologists that there was conducted trade.

"Archaeologists have discovered a very large complex. The site had high religious and financial activity. Probably, at this place was the market" - suggested the Minister of Culture of Greece.

Meanwhile, on an archaeological conference in Thessaloniki, archaeologists said they found in northern Greece, the remains of prehistoric settlements, some of which are about eight thousand years.

During the excavation, which began in September 2003, archaeologists found there 53 clay figurines, stone tools.

Earlier, Greek scientists found remains of two prehistoric settlements near the town of Ptolemais. There were found five old cemeteries and about a thousand objects related to the first half of the sixth millennium BC.

Among the found objects of ancient art were clay figurines of humans and animals, as well as pottery. Tells Telegraph.
