Robots in our lives: Mechanical police, turtles, amoeba and surgeons

Mechanical aides penetrate deeply into the life of a man, reminiscent of a science fiction novel. Here's say, a robot policeman. Many people think that this is a Hollywood tale, and wrong. Meanwhile, domestic scientists from Rostov-on-Don, after six years of research have learned to create living robots from the turtles. Such biorobots can be used for peaceful and military purposes.

Even more strange is developing a project team of engineers and designers from Canada and Switzerland. Their creation, titled Mascarillons, lies at the junction of aeronautics, electronics and art.

Mascarillons - semi-Flying Robots-cubes, rising into the air by helium. This is part of a larger project to create autonomous machines lighter than air. They consist of wooden slats and tapes, coils of wires and electronics, and filled with helium. Robots have a system of fans, allowing them to move in the air and maintain the desired orientation in space. They have a processor, wireless communication system and a whole set of sensors that enable these mechanisms to navigate in the environment, avoid obstacles and to communicate with each other. Why is it all, the sponsors are not reported, but in the final version of the project involves the construction of 20 such machines. So far created three prototypes.

Amazing robot amoeba emerged in the bowels of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. It was created by a group of scientists headed by Dennis Ghosn. The robot has the unique ability of moving in space, called "tselnokozhim movement."

The robot has no wheels or legs, and in order to move, it actually turns itself inside out, the entire outer surface of the machine advances it forward. The "body" of the device is covered by a flexible membrane - this "skin" back of the device gradually shrinks to the center, "flows" in the hollow core, moving it in the opposite direction and "follows" the front, again to become the outer surface of the robot.

Interestingly, the elastic robot can "sneak" into a hole of smaller diameter than its body.The truth of the flexible surface has its drawbacks: while it is not too wear resistant, not immune from punctures and cuts, which makes it impossible to use the robot to "rough terrain". Dennis Hong and his colleagues have assured that will solve this problem.

Scientific thought from the affairs of the earth is drawn to the problems of space. Scientists at the University of Nebraska announced the creation of a unique micro-robot, with which surgery can be held directly in space. Miniature robots moving about 7.5 cm in length - the size of a lady's lipstick - are controlled by computers, including those from Earth.

Some species of robots are equipped with mini-cameras and lighting equipment, and are able to transmit the image from space. It is planned that by next year, the astronauts will be taught using robots to carry out surgery in space.

Meanwhile, the work is underway to create a robot that can carry out a biopsy. It is also planned to invent a robot that can be put in space weightlessness in the stomach through the patient's esophagus.
