In Moscow, opened the exhibition of the famous Alberto Giacometti

September 17 at the State Museum of Fine Arts The Pushkin exhibition of Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966). This event can be considered one of the most important in the cultural life of the capital, because of the eminent Swiss sculptor, painter and graphic artist of the twentieth century are exhibited in Russia for the first time.

The exhibition shows how the master's early works, executed in a realistic manner, and later, brought him the greatest fame - in particular, "Torso" (1925), "Characters" (1926-1927), designs such as three-dimensional collages, to ompozitsiya "Man and a woman "(1927).

Total in the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin housed 27 sculptures, seven paintings and 20 drawings and prints by Alberto Giacometti. Among the exhibits as well - the famous sculpture "The Venetian" $ 14 million - the recent acquisition of Roman Abramovich.

As the son of artist Giovanni Giacometti, Alberto childhood doing stucco and painting. In 1919-1920 he studied in Geneva, the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the School of Arts and Crafts class sculpture.

In 1920 and 1921 went to Italy, having become acquainted not only with the classics of Italian art, but also with the monuments of ancient Rome, with the ancient Egyptian collections. Since the beginning of 1922 settled in Paris where he attended the studio until 1925 Bourdelle at the Academy Grand Shomer.

Giacometti shot to fame during his lifetime, develop your own style in art, which was later named the "high style". In 1962 at the Venice Biennale, Alberto Giacometti officially recognized as the best sculptor of the twentieth century.

However, the creator was never satisfied with his work and is constantly tinkering with them. In the last years of his life sculptor has won many awards. Large retrospective exhibitions of his work were held in the Museum of Fine Arts in Zurich (1962) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1965). Alberto Giacometti died at age 65 on Jan. 12, 1966.
