September 18, 1947 was created by U.S. Central Intelligence Agency - the famous CIA. After the U.S. entry into World War II intelligence and counterintelligence units of the army and navy were expanded. This was done by his successor, Harry Truman, the OSS was disbanded and handed him the analytical department State Department.

Feeling the need to coordinate a large number of intelligence reports, President Truman established in January 1946 Central Intelligence Group. TSRG acquired the function of collecting classified information and counterintelligence activities abroad, as well as the function of analytical service. Adopted in 1947 National Security Act provided for the creation on its basis the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Today, the CIA has played a leading role in the U.S. intelligence community. CIA Director - Chief Adviser to the President and the National Security Council on intelligence, and for the government - a senior official of the intelligence services. As such, it establishes general requirements for the intelligence services, and defines how the solution of their tasks, develops and justifies a national program of foreign intelligence, and is also responsible for protecting the confidentiality of information sources and methods of intelligence activities.

The agency carries out the most specific tasks - recruitment agents, covert operations, etc. Several years ago, the number of CIA employees exceeded 20 thousand people.
